So Close
Amanda Luker never had much growing up at the trailer park in small town Florida, but she always knew she wanted more. She wished for a father. She wished she had a better, more stable job. She wished her mom would take care of her younger brother so she could move far away without feeling guilty. When a ratty boyfriend finally leads Amanda to a swanky South Beach hotel job - she meets two men that will rock her world upside down. Pax is a party going wealthy Palm Beach type swathed in pink polo’s and unlimited funds. He is intrigued by Amanda’s pretty face and spunk but is afraid of the honesty underlying her quick wit. Tom Davis is an attorney speaking at an event in the same hotel. She listens closely, admires his down to earth manner and political aspirations. Amanda unknowingly helps out his wife in the restroom and an unlikely friendship begins to wind its way through Amanda’s life. In this fast paced, humorous story authors Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus once again had me from hello. A little bit Cinderella (and a lot you what think but wouldn’t say out loud!) So Close brings the reader through the underground messy political arena (which feels frighteningly true!) and also the throws of love, friendship and family. Amanda struggles with what she desperately wants while knowing she can never abandon her needy, selfish mother and loving siblings. The saying you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family never rang more true. Highly recommend this fabulous, fun PERFECT beach read! #summerreads2016
